Diet Cig
American indie rock duo, Diet Cig, reached out in need of a new logo, merch designs, and a Spotify animation to celebrate their latest album, “Do You Wonder About Me.” I worked with Alex to devise a system of custom lettering that stretched across their brand, capturing their playful and dreamy sounds.
Process Sketches
To kick off the design process, I asked Alex to give me a list of adjectives she wanted the lettering to embody. “Squishy, sneaky, bouncy, and bold” were among the group. I began by sketching only Gs…a lot of Gs, as a way of exploring some different typographic expressions. From there, I asked Alex to identify which Gs she vibed with and why. This feedback let me identify specific directions that showed promise and extend the typographic DNA of those Gs to the rest of the name. From the four initial logo-type concepts I delivered to Alex, we narrowed it down to one that then underwent a multistep process of refinement.
